"The Third Stage of birth is when the placenta is born. After the baby is born oxytocin continues to make the womb contract and it becomes smaller, which makes the placenta come away from the wall of the womb where it was attached.

You have a choice between birthing your placenta naturally, having medical management straight away, or waiting to see what happens and having an injection later. Delayed cord clamping is important whatever you decide."
