Why shop small for your student midwife stationery?

Why shop small for your student midwife stationery?

Okay, let’s be honest: Yes, it’s cheaper to pick up your student midwife notebooks and pens for uni from Sainsbury’s or WHSmiths. I know that. You know that. But here’s the deal: those shops aren’t making you birthy stationery covered in birth art and watercolour placentas🤪

Everything in my shop is made by me (Hannah) proud birth nerd and home educating mama! Every item I make is created with love, intention, and you in mind - from the hand-painted artwork to the quality of the paper stock to the meaning behind the words.

It's tricky for small businesses like me to be seen as 'good value' when every search on Google brings up a sea of cheap, poor quality mass-produced things from Temu and Ali Express!

So, why is it more expensive?

Because it’s not mass-produced and shipped from China - it’s not designed by an anonymous office supplier - and it wasn’t churned out on cheap paper with plastic wrap and no soul to be sold for 50p!

What you’re buying is:
  • Original watercolour art with brush and ink and paint
  • Sustainably printed, mostly here in the UK
  • Designed by a woman who cares deeply about mothers, midwives, and the stories you hold.
  • Packaged with love and birthy extras.
Why it feels good to shop small

When you choose to buy from an independent artist like me, your money doesn’t vanish into a corporate spreadsheet. It means:

  • I can keep doing this work from my kitchen table whilst caring for my little ones
  • I can invest in new ideas for student midwives and get your input too to tailor things to the way you'd like them
  • I can offer designs that reflect the real beauty and depth of your work

It’s slow business - thoughtful business - heart-led womby business!

Treat yourself (and your journey)

I know you’ve got a lot to juggle (and a student loan to stretch). Student midwifery is demanding, emotional, and sacred work - and you deserve tools and treats that honour that.

Whether it’s a lanyard that makes you smile every shift, or a notebook that reminds you why you’re doing this, I hope you’ll see my little shop as a space created for you.

So yes - you could buy it cheaper elsewhere.

But if you treat yourself to just one or two things from my shop, you’re not just buying stationery.

You’re investing in your own journey - and in mine, too.

Thank you for being here 💛
Hannah
